Twenty one novice mountain walkers braved difficult conditions to trek to the summit of Snowdon yesterday on Saturday 24th September 2011.
The team were fundraising for I CAN, the Childrens’ Communication Charity. They hoped to raise more than £5000 to support work with young people in the UK who have speech and communication difficulties.
Conditions on the trek, which took over seven hours to complete, were trecherous with rain and strong winds throughout the ascent to the highest mountain summit in Wales and England.
The organiser for ICAN, Claire James, said that: “The trekkers were elated with their success in such testing conditions. They are so happy to have completed the challenge and to have raised so much money for ICAN.”
The trekers travelled from Essex, Northampton, Harrogate, London and Middlesborough to North Wales to complete the challenge.
Kat, a Speech and Language Therapist from Harrogate told me that: “It was fantastic to complete the trek to the summit of Snowdon although we could see nothing from the top due to the rain, cloud and wind. It felt even better to be able to complete the challenge in such difficult weather.”
