Today in central London, students, retired lecturers and political activists protested against the increase in University tuition fees. The demonstrators marched from University College London to Moorgate via the central tourist and financial districts of the capital.

A strong Police presence contained the marchers - Riot Police, horses and dog teams - which ensured that the demonstration stayed on the planned route.

Minor spats with the Police blew up causing them don hard hats.

After listening to speeches at their protest camp outside of St. Paul's Cathedral in London yesterday, a group of demonstrators marched through the capital's streets and onto the Houses of parliament. Over ten thousand Hindu worshipers and visitors celebrated the festival of light here tonight.

Twenty one novice mountain walkers braved difficult conditions to trek to the summit of Snowdon yesterday on Saturday 24th September 2011.

The team were fundraising for I CAN, the Childrens' Communication Charity. They hoped to raise more than £5000 to support work with young people in the UK who have speech and communication difficulties.

A slick of bubbling brown detritus flowing in a tributary of the river Conwy in North Wales is a possible cause of the deaths of  hundreds of small seawater crabs observed in the area around the pollution.

The slick, clearly visible and trapped  by the high tide, was washed into the mouth of the Conwy estuary as the tide ebbed.
